World Cup Qualifiers

Date: March 28th 2009

Time: 9:00PM

Place: Queens-NY

It was do or die coming down the stretch for the United States men’s soccer team in El Salvador today. After seventy minutes of play the US were b trailing by two goals to nil and things look bleak at that point but they somehow managed to find the strength from within and in the seventy seven minute scored and then again in the eighty eight minute to tie the game. El Salvador has to be disappointed after leading so strongly and playing with so much strength and speed in front of approximately thirty one thousand of their home fans. They took control of the game early and I guess that is what caught America by surprise. The Americans only started taking notice that this game could be a defeat after the second goal and that helped them to understand that they needed to step up their game if they wanted to compete, that they did and it shows the character these players. The competition is now beginning to take shape and if you were following the qualifiers you would now understand how important it is for each team to get maximum points especially at home games if they wanted to increase their chances of getting to the big stage in South Africa in 2010. This is the last stage of qualifiers and out of six teams, three and half will qualify. The first three will go to South Africa and the half will have to play a home and away game against a South American team which is almost impossible to win therefore it is so much more important to be in the first three.
